1. Structured Text to a Precise Document
OpenResume takes the structured text an AI assistant already produces and parses it deterministically into a resume or cover letter — no model inside the app, no interpretation. Live preview, formatting controls, and pagination that never duplicates or drops a line stay in sync across the preview, the PDF, and the DOCX, because all three are generated from the same layout. PDF text is selectable and DOCX paragraphs are editable, so the output stays a working document rather than a picture of one.
2. Two Resume Layouts, Including ATS Simple
Professional Two-Column is the default. ATS Simple renders one full-width column in author order with no tables and no positioned columns, and its DOCX export emits a linear paragraph flow to match; switching layouts preserves every word and reflows the preview instantly. Cover letters use a calm single-column business-letter layout. ATS Simple reduces the common parsing obstacles — it does not, and does not claim to, guarantee compatibility with any specific applicant tracking system.
3. Application Kit: Resume and Cover Letter Together
One combined AI response builds a tailored resume and matching cover letter at once. Both sections are parsed and validated before either document is replaced, so a failed build leaves the previous pair untouched. The kit opens in a tabbed workspace where each document stays independently editable, and exports as one combined PDF, one combined Word document, or separate files in a chosen order — cover letter first by default, or resume first.
4. Nothing Leaves the Browser
There is no backend, no authentication, no analytics, no cloud storage, and no integrated AI. The app makes no network request at runtime. Resume, cover letter, and kit content live in memory for the current session only — the single value written to localStorage is the interface theme. Reloading the page discards the document, which is the deliberate trade for a builder that never keeps a copy of a career history.
5. Built for Fast Repetition
The app opens on document selection — Resume, Cover Letter, and Application Kit — and each card starts a new build with Copy AI Instructions, putting the exact instruction template one click away. Load Example shows the complete workflow without copying anything. A new build replaces the previous document of the same type without a confirmation dialog, on the assumption that one application is being iterated at a time.
